On Friday, the Red Cross is holding its first shelter-host community event at a church on the east side of the intersection of Hwy. 401 and S. 15th Avenue, near the community centre.
In addition to the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Canada Goose and the B.C. Fire Services are part of the event that was held on Thursday.
The Red Cross has provided about $100,000 worth of clothing and tents for the homeless and their families. The organization will give another $35,000 in the coming weeks, said Rob Gogin, the organization’s regional program manager for the Pacific region.
“We can’t afford to not provide this,” he said. “If we give them what they are needing in these locations, it’ll continue to be there.”
